Earth

The element of Earth is designated as the center. It is the underlying canvas that the seasons are painted on. The color associated with Earth is yellow, the color a Geomancer wears. Earth is the child of Fire. When The Creative Cycle of the Five Energies reaches the peak of its movement, the energy blazes upward (Fire). And, as with all rhythmic, wave-like motion, it is out of this ascending movement that power to return is born. (35)

Master Lam Kam Chuen continues to say about the role of Earth in the control or destructive cycle.

Earth controls Water. The descending and sinking pull of the Water energy is restrained by the centripetal pull of the rotating Earth energy. If Earth is weak, Water sinks deeper. If Earth is too strong, it impedes the natural movement of Water. (35)
